Diver dies after getting into difficulty off Dwejra

The 54-year-old German woman was seen floating in the water by people in the area

A diver has died after finding herself in difficulty while in the sea off Dwejra in Gozo.

The diver, a 54-year-old German woman, was seen floating in the water by other persons in the area within the limits of San Lawrenz.   A call was made to emergency services at around 12.30pm.

Emergency responders performed CPR on the diver but were unable to resuscitate her. The diver was certified as dead shortly after.

Armed Forces Malta (AFM) and Civil Protection Department (CPD) personnel attended the scene after the diver had been brought ashore.

Magistrate Simone Grech was informed of the case, and an inquiry was opened. Police investigations are ongoing.
