AFM officer in Croatia air base inspection

An officer of the Armed Forces of Malta, Major Albert Brincat, has participated in an air base inspection in Croatia in support of the Dayton Accords, co-ordinated by the Organization for the Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the war in Bosnia, called on a number of international organizations, including the OSCE, to monitor, oversee, and implement the various components of the agreement.

Major Brincat, and another officer from the Czech Republic, assisted a military team from Montenegro in an inspection of a military air base. This site inspection was organised as part of the sub-regional arms control agreement whose aim is to create a stable military balance based on the lowest level of armaments consistent with the achievement of security.

Major Brincat sais the all the aims of the mission were achieved and the inspection was carried out in a spirit of openness and transparency.

Major Brincat was among a number of AFM officers who followed specialized arms verification training last year to be in a position to participate in such missions. This training was made possible through the Italian Military Mission in Malta. Another AFM officer will be participating in another mission next month.
