Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said today that the government was ready to hold talks on public transport as long as they were civilised, around a table, and without the sort of incidents witnessed over the past few days.

He also stressed that anybody who broke the law would have to bear the consequences. What had happened, he said, was detrimental to Malta's image, and hence detrimental to the transport operators themselves,

He said government policy was clear in favour of liberalisation but with sensitivity to ensure that operators moved forward and not backwards. (See video clip)
