I am writing this out of disappointment, very big disappointment.

A few days ago my nine-year-old daughter left a bag behind her after sitting down on a low wall on the Buġibba seafront (the jetty area). There was nothing of particular value in it: her swimsuit, a faded beach towel, a pair of flip-flops, a collection of DVDs (not originals) and her mobile phone (a cheap model you can get for under €50). As soon as we discovered it was missing we went back to the spot but didn't find it. The phone was still on, so I tried to call several times but no one answered. I even left a message to be contacted back, explaining that the bag contained only a child's treasure.

I tried again even the next day, hoping to get an answer but to no avail.

Now, I ask, how can someone be so heartless as to keep such items knowing they belong to an innocent girl? The mobile phone contained photos that she can never get back as they were of pets that died, her only memories of animals she loved. She'd been accumulating the collection of DVDs since she was three years old. Do the people that found her bag realise they broke her heart?

That she spent sleepless nights crying her eyes out? Have they never been children themselves? Is this what we call a civilised country?
