George Abela represents Labour on Meusac

Labour leader Joseph Muscat yesterday nominated George Abela as the representative of the Malta Labour Party on the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (Muesac). The MLP spokesman for European affairs, Luciano Busuttil, is Dr Abela's substitute.

Dr Abela said he is looking forward to officially contributing on behalf of the MLP to such an important forum.

Muesac is an initiative taken by the government to review the effects of EU legislation on Malta.

Dr Abela was previously a member of Muesac when Malta was negotiating its EU accession package. He had been appointed by the government.

@Joe Grima . . .
so if the achievers amongst the ranks of former labour ministers bring with them their expertise, experience and insight, what exactly do the non-achievers, the non-entities and useless baggage have to contribute ??? So much for inclusivity . . . . this was merely a re-labelling exercise for the same rancid product!

@ Joe Grima

Joe, you should have stopped after "Depends on who you are referring to".

You know very well who I had in mind and you did not even make it to the bottom of the list! I meant that as a compliment.

I certainly do not harbour any jealousy for you or others of the 'old Labour' but my goals in life may not be similar to yours, so in case you are including me as one of those people 'who have never achieved anything in life', I regard that as a low remark., totally uncalled for and a smear on your reputation you had previously enjoyed!

I think that you have just made it to the list.

Mr Martinelli: @ Joe Grima - Joseph and George may be the men for tomorrow, but why weigh them down with men from the past?

Depends on who you are referring to: Joseph's welcome to former Labour Ministers at his first post- election rally was eloquent evidence of his interpretation of "inclusivity" . Party leaders worth their salt do not make distinctions. They welcome men and women from any direction. Achievers bring with them their expertise, their experience and their insight in handling political and other sensitive issues . On rare occasions political parties have welcomed men even from outside their own ranks. I speak of the seven consecutive years I spent at NET TV without incident with either Party. It doesn't really matter which part of the divide you come from or how far back you go , when you are visibly even handed in pushing the national limits of tolerance, whatever the issue.

The fact is that people who have never achieved anything in life tend to be jealous of those who have. Labelling , such as "Men from the Past or" Old Labour" is one way of trying to discredit the success of those who made it.
