Alternattiva Demokratika has applauded the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage for his suggestion to schedule the whole of Ta’ Ċenċ and for highlighting the fact that more archaeological remains are yet to be discovered on other sites in the Mġarr ix-Xini area.
AD Gozo spokesman Victor Galea said the party had been insisting that the dilapidated area of Ta’ Lambert near the defunct heliport should stop being used as an illegal dumping site for three years.
He asked if the dumping could be an excuse to encourage further development in the area of the unused heliport. Mr Galea insisted that the government should invest in a general clean-up of these yet undiscovered archaeological sites and in the general culture and heritage which gave Gozo a particular identity as the island with the most ancient landscapes of the Mediterranean.
AD chairman Arnold Cassola proposed a campaign to educate people about having a sense of pride in their surroundings and the environment.
“Fieldtrips to these endangered places should be encouraged in order to sensitise students and help them understand that future generations will not be able to enjoy them unless we care for them ourselves.”
He said that partnership programmes between government entities, local councils, non-governmental and other organisations should be encouraged.
