John Cefai's Prime Time won the first Gleneagles Cup in a race held over a route between ix-Xatt l-Aħmar and Comino. This was Cefai's second consecutive success in competitions organised by the Imperial Gozo Yacht Club.

A force four wind at the beginning of the race made for an exciting start with five boats tussling for the best position. The wind decreased as the race progressed and Cefai showed his true qualities by leading Prime Time to a comfortable lead.

Prime Time crossed the finish line in 2:04:44. Anthony Xuereb's Illusion was second, around 20 minutes later and Frankie Farrugia's First Class third in an actual time of 2:32:11.

The final table on corrected time was: 1. Prime Time 2:20:29; 2. Illusion 2:27:42; 3. First Class 2:44:06.
