The total amount of Malta's contributions to the EU since May 1, 2004, to date was €224.2 million.

These consisted of €45.4 million originating from Customs duties (TOR) and €33.3 million that were VAT-based.

Over the same period Malta received just over €349 million from the EU. Between 2000 and April 2004 Malta received €362 million.

The information was given by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech in reply to a parliamentary question by Silvio Parnis (MLP).
