Maltese international waterpolo referee Peter Balzan has just been appointed by LEN, the sports governing body in Europe, to officiate in the women's European Super Cup final in Catania, Sicily, next Sunday.

The two teams contesting the final are European champions Orizzonte Catania and AS Roma, both of Italy.

Roma won the 2007-08 LEN Trophy after beating Olympiakos Piraeus, of Greece, 10-9 in the final.

The assigned delegate for the Super Cup will be Turkey's Haluk Toygarli. He is the president of the LEN Technical Waterpolo Committee. The other referee accompanying Balzan will be George Stravidis, of Greece.
