Soft drinks maker Farsons is to start exporting Kinnie to Russia after preparations going back more than two years, Malta Enterprise chairman Alan Camilleri has said in a radio interview.
Mr Camilleri said the export possibility was first discussed during a visit to Moscow by a business delegation organised by Malta Enterprise, with the preparations since then including the design of a new bottle.
In an interview to The Times Business last February, Farsons CEO Louis Farrugia had spoken of export initiatives in Russia, the US and Japan.
Kinnie is a carbonated soft drink created by Farsons in 1952. It is made of bitter oranges and a variety of aromatic herbs.
Mr Camilleri, who was speaking on Radio 101, also remarked that despite the international economic downturn, the number of enquiries to Malta Enterprise by potential investors had not declined. Among projects which had been approved was investment by a South African firm to use discarded plastic to make pellets for industry.
