Maltese Olympic Committee president Lino Farrugia Sacco has been re-elected to serve another four-year term on the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG).
The vote for a new committee was held on Thursday evening when delegates met for a general meeting in Pescara.
During the assembly, president Amar Addadi also retained his seat .
"The election of Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco on the executive committee of the Mediterranean Games will naturally help Maltese sports to progress further, technically and financially," the Maltese Olympic Committee said in a short statement.
Algerian Addadi will continue to head the organisation until 2013 along with vice presidents Denis Masseglia, of France, and Egypt's Mounir Sabet. Secretary general Isidros Kouvolos, of Greece, retained his seat and so did treasurer Kikis Lazaridis, of Cyprus.
Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco, MOC head since 1999, will be one of seven other delegates on the international committee.
Addadi's election was una-nimous. He welcomed the delegates of Montenegro who were present for the first time.
The assembly also voted in favour of having Macedonia in the Med. Games fold. The number of member countries is now 24. The 2013 Games will be held in Greece.
Meanwhile, the opening cere-mony of the 16th edition of the Med. Games got under way last night with a march past and variety show at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara.
