Injured and abandoned strays will now be rescued by the two new animal ambulances that were launched today.

Government signed an agreement with animal non government organisation Noah’s Arc to fund and operate the service. People can call the police head quarters on 2122 4001 to report an injured or abandoned stray animal. The police will then direct the call to Noah’s Arc who will go to the rescue, take the animal to a vet and then take it to the sanctuary from where it will be homed.

On launching this new service, that is free for stray animals, Resources Minister George Pullicino thanked all NGOs who dedicated their lives to protecting animals. He also called on the public not to abuse the service. The ambulance was another step forward in government's commitment to safeguard animal rights. Next year the animal after care centre in Ta Qali is expected to start operating.
