Mosta 1
Pietà Hotspurs 2
This was Pietà's second victory of the season. They clinched the points thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Clive Spiteri to move off the bottom place and leave Mosta reeling in a mid-table position and way off the promotion zone.
Mosta have now gone seven matches without a win while Pietà should also be commended for promoting their youth ranks yet again. Yesterday, it was the turn of 16-year-old Zack Muscat to make his debut and he crowned his day with a superb goal.
In the opening half, Pieta had keeper Miguel Montfort to thank for keeping Mosta at bay on various occasions.
Oliver Spiteri's Blues were seeing more of the ball but after a series of missed chances in front of Montfort, it was Pietà who could have taken the lead when Benjamin Perry was twice denied by Jonathan Debono.
But Mosta deservedly took the lead on the half-hour mark when the ever-present Bryan Agius headed home a Julian Vella centre at the far post.
Montfort did well to stop Lyden Micallef's shot on 33 minutes and then rushed out of goal to halt Victor Osubu's stride inside the Hotspurs' half.
Lee Grima drove the ball over the bar from two metres out and a minute later Gilbert Martin sprinted through but again found Montfort in his way. Just before half-time, Agius hit wide from a corner.
Pietà were an improved lot after the break and immediately drew level when young substitute Muscat hit a scorcher from outside the box.
Mosta then suffered another setback when Debono was stretchered off the field after an abrasive challenge by Shaun Micallef inside the Blues' box.
Stand-in keeper Noel Attard showed no jitters though as he was on the right spot to keep out a Micallef drive and then a Bernard Sciberras header soon after.
Pietà held a slight edge now but Mosta again found Montfort in their way when stopping a Terrence Vella header. Martin released Osubu but the latter hit wide with only Montfort to beat.
Muscat almost scored a second goal late on but shot straight at Attard. However, the story was not over yet as Spiteri was allowed space in added time to fire an unstoppable shot from outside the box and win the match for Pietà in dramatic fashion.
