How is one to react when a Prime Minister announces that the country that he leads is united over a project that has stirred up nothing but controversy?

After months of protest, all undertaken with the best of motives and completely free of any political implications, the Prime Minister meets Renzo Piano again and all those interested in the outcome of these talks presume that the brief concerning the sick joke that will be the roofless and, hence, useless theatre will be withdrawn. But no: Lawrence Gonzi and Mr Piano discussed the durability of Maltese stone, which, as far as anyone involved in the arts is concerned, is more malleable than the Prime Minister's head, for, despite international tenor Joseph Calleja's advice, let alone mine and all those who expressed their total disappointment, the theatre project will remain as is.
