A silver statuetterepresenting Christ the King is to be given to the Pope by Archbishop Paul Cremona to mark the pontiff's visit to Malta.
The fine work of Art, almost 45 cm high, was produced by Maltese artist Christopher Ebejer following the style of Antonio Sciortino’s monument Christ the King which symbolize the island’s deep roots in Christianity.
Some of Ebejer’s public monuments are: Pietro Paolo Floriani in Floriana, The Fisherman at St Julians, Carm Lino Spiteri at Mellieha and Youth and Life in Qrendi.
The work was produced using old techniques by the Laga Company of Luqa, the same silversmiths that made the bas-relief of Caravaggio's The Beheading of St John the Baptist, which was presented also to Pope Benedict XVI by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in 2007.
