Gymstars athletes highlighted their on-going progress as they achieved a second placing at the Michel Wanten Cup, a prestigious competition held in Berkenbos, Belgium recently.

The young Maltese gymnasts held their own against competitors from Belgium, the Netherlands, England and Italy.

Kirsty Caruana, Nicole Pace and Adreana Zammit took part in the FIG juniors category in Belgium. The Gymstars trio produced an excellent performance as their average of 47.00 points surpassed the MQS for next year’s Youth Commonwealth Games.

In the individual event, Caruana again showed her potential, clinching a gold medal in the floor competition and finishing second overall.

Despite feeling unwell during her stay in Belgium, Nicole Pace demonstrated courage and determination to place seventh overall while the competitive Zammit was ninth.

Young Mia Vickery left a very good impression when competing in FIG Modified category. Vickery faced strong competitors but still managed to finish fourth overall.

In a statement, Gymstars said these results augur well for their upcoming international competition at the weekend.

The Gymstars event will see the participation of gymnasts from England, Wales, Monaco, Isle of Man and Luxembourg.
