A Libyan warship carrying defecting Libyan officers is sailing close to Malta and is being closely watched by the Italian frigate Fenice, according to reports in the international media.

The AFM, however, has denied the reports and said it was not monitoring any vessel near Malta.

The AFM is known to be on alert. An Islander maritime patrol aircraft took off from Luqa about an hour ago.
