Foreign Minister Tonio Borg is having talks in Rome on the Libyan crisis and the reaction of the international community.

The Foreign Ministry said that Dr Borg this morning had a meeting with Stefania Craxi, Under Secretary for Mediterranean Affairs on the situation in Libya and plans for Malta to host meetings of the 5+5 group of Western Mediterranean nations.

It was agreed that sanctions should not target the people of Libya.

Dr Borg also reiterated that Malta would continue to offer humanitarian assistance but would not participate in military operations and remain neutral.

Dr Borg is due to meet Foreign Minister Franco Frattini before the two ministers attend an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels.

The ministry said all Maltese wishing to return from Libya have now done so, except for two who are still on their way back.
