Bakers in Qormi have baked the world's biggest loaf of bread.
A big crowd applauded and cheered as the loaf - nine feet in diametre, was brought out of a specially constructed oven near St George's Church on Saturday afternoon
The ħobża tal-Malti, weighing two tons, was the main attraction at the Festa tar-Rebbiegha (Spring Festival).
Preparations started in the open air in the afternoon and the loaf was baked in a wood fired oven for some three hours.
The effort was a dry run for another attempt next year to beat the world record. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest loaf was baked on November 13, 2008 in Curitiba, Brazil. It weighed 1.57 tons.
Qormi is well known for bread-making, hence the initiative by the Kumitat Festi Esterni San Ġorġ Martri.
Experts from Ta’ Ġormina Bakery will be responsible for baking the loaf.
