The second edition of the Malta summer carnival returns this weekend in Buġibba.

The festival will feature 10 floats parading round the streets of the tourist hotspot (the population trebles to 60,000 in summer) and some 450 dancers in their summer costumes.

It is being organised by Catwalk Productions in conjunction with the St Paul's Bay Local Council.

"We want to show our carnival tradition even to tourists who come in summer," said organiser Paul Chetcuti when asked why the festival was being organised out of season.

The event is being supported by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Councils.
