A group of 47 migrants was brought to Malta on two patrol boats early this morning after their dinghy was intercepted off Zurrieq. It was the second group to arrive in Malta within a few hours.
The migrants - 37 men and 10 women - were transferred to the patrol boats which arrived at Hay Wharf at 5.30 a.m.
Late yesterday, another group, of 46 migrants, was brought ashore at Ghar Lapsi.
The 35 men and 11 women, two of them pregnant, said they were from Somalia.
The immigrants' boat was escorted by a patrol boat after it was spotted near Filfla.
Another 88 migrants Somalis landing at Ghajn Tuffieha last Sunday and 52 Egyptian migrants arrived in the previous week.
Somalis form the biggest group of migrants in Malta. According to reports, members of the group that arrived last week said they had purposely come to Malta - as against arriving here by accident while on their way to Italy.
140 migrants were repatriated in the past month by the Home Affairs Ministry working in association with Frontex.
