The health authorities have warned against adverts for electronic cigarettes that claim they are not tobacco products. The Environmental Health Directorate noted that promotion of this product was on the increase and reminded stakeholders that, although smoking devices simulating cigarettes or tobacco were not illegal, their advertising and use were regulated. The law makes it clear that, for purposes of advertising and their use in public places, electronic cigarettes are considered tobacco products. Unproven claims on their efficiency in reducing tobacco addiction were not to be made, in line with World Health Organisation recommendations, the directorate said.
