Former Motown vocalist Richard Street, a member of the Temptations for 25 years, has died at 70.
His wife Cindy said her husband died on Thursday at a hospital in Las Vegas after a short illness.
Street sang as a young man with Temptations members Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin, but did not join the famed Motown group until the early 1970s.
However, a number of the Temptations’ bestselling hits feature Street’s lead vocals, including Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are) in 1971; Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone in1972; and his featured solo, Hey Girl (I Like Your Style) in 1973. Street later moved from his native Detroit to Los Angeles with other Motown acts and stayed with the group until the mid-1990s.
Another Temptations singer, Otis Damon Harris, died earlier in February but his death was only reported this week.
