A drug addict was jailed one year for stealing a computer from a car in Sta Venera.

Rittmar Hatherly, 25, from Floriana admitted to the theft and relapsing yesterday at around 4.30pm.

Police Inspector Sarah Magri said the man had a drug problem and was stealing to fuel his addiction. He fully cooperated with the police and was ready to return the stolen object.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale asked the man whether he still wanted to file a guilty plea.

He jailed him for one year and ordered the authorities to put him in a drug rehabilitation programme.

He was remanded to the forensic unit at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Lawyer Dean Hili appeared for the man.
