Any electrical product placed on the market in Malta should be fitted with an appropriate termination, in line with Electrical Accessories Regulations, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) said.

It said that electrical products not fitted with a three-pin plug could be supplied with a proper conversion plug. This had to be fitted in such a way that a tool would be required to remove it.

The need for this plug is primarily for safety reasons and to prevent people from suffering electrical shocks when trying to insert a non-three pin plug into a three-pin socket outlet while also ensuring a fused electrical supply to the appliance.

Importers and retailers had he duty to supply such electrical appliances fitted with a three-pin plug or suitable adapter before the consumer received the product.
Consumers should ensure that electrical appliances were fitted with these connections before they received the product.
