Two cars and a karozzin (horse drawn cab) were damaged this morning when the horse bolted at about 11.15am in Gzira near Muscat Motors. The horse is being put to sleep.

One of the cars, a Daihatsu Sirion driven by a 65-year-old woman from Sliema, had a badly damaged bonnet and roof and its windscreen was smashed. Damage to the karozzin was also extensive. A parked Citroen was also damaged.

An eyewitness said the karozzin was being driven down Rue d'Argens towards Msida when the horse suddenly started going faster, crossed lane and hit the Daihatsu. The cab driver, a 28-year-old man from Sliema, fell off. He is being treated in hospital for slight injuries.

The Daihatsu driver is being treated for shock.

It was the second traffic accident this month caused by a horse that bolted.

The first took place in Attard on January 4 when a horse bolted and crashed into a car. The horse died on site.
