A 19-year-old Somali man has been handed a suspended six-month jail term and ordered to pay €600 after he was convicted of stealing two mobile phones in Gozo.

The police said the man stole the phones from the handbags of two women in December 2014. One of the woman was attending a church concert, while the other was performing in the same concert.

One of the mobile phones was eventually recovered by the police.

The Somali national was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for one year and also ordered to pay €600 for the mobile phone which was not recovered.
