The Cricket Winter Wallop continued on Saturday with the Melita Bees playing the Marsa Magpies.

After a two-hour delay due to rain, the game finally got underway with the Bees batting first. The wet ground did not make runs easy and a low-scoring game was on.

The Bees managed to total 124 runs from their overs.

There were 23 extras which showed how hard it was to make runs off the bat.

Matt McKeogh managed to retire after 30 balls and top scored with 24 runs which included three boundaries.

Paul Bradley made 22 runs and batsmen Frank Spiteri and Tim Wheeler both made 123 each. Joy Ghoseroy just managed to make it into double figures while the others struggled with the conditions.

For the Magpies, wickets were shared among Ronnie Saco, Sarfraz Ali, Sumair Khan, Andrew Naudi, Haroon Majeed and Sam Aquilina.

It was also great to see Zack Borg Ginger from the juniors involved in two run-outs.

The Magpies needed to win to book a place in the Grand Final in two weeks’ time but were bowled out for 107 runs.

Sacco top-scored with 29 runs, Haroon Majeed made 18 and Mark G. Sacco 13 as the higher scorers.

Extras were 21. Frank Spiteri, famed for his devastating batting, took four wickets.

Derek Ali, Tim Wheeler and Joy Ghoseroy claimed a wicket each.

The Bees took 14 points to qualify for the Grand Final.

Friendly match

Last Sunday, the national team played a friendly against ‘The Rest’.

The Maltese selection scored 155 runs which proved too much for The Rest who made 80 runs all out.
