The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has asked for an urgent meeting with the Health Minister to discuss privatisation in the health sector.

It said it requested the meeting because of talk on privatisation involving the Cospicua and Kirkop health centres and Gozo General Hospital.

The union said there was no agreement about privatisation and it had no information as to from where any private entrepreneurs would get their nurses.

It warned that it would not allow for any of its members to be seconded to any private entities.

This meant that any newly privatised section would have to work with foreign nurses, rendering the service unsafe to patients.
