Labour MP Luciano Busuttil has slammed the new bus lane at Gzira seafront.

He said on facebook that he was stuck in traffic for half an hour during which not a single bus passed by.

The extension of the bus lane from Sliema was strongly criticised when it was announced, but Transport Minister Joe Mizzi had insisted that according to Transport Malta studies, a single lane for ordinary traffic was more than enough to cope with traffic flow.

In a reaction on TimesTalk this evening, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said an analysis of the way how the bus lane was performing, including today's problems was under way. One problem, he said, was the large number of traffic lights on this road.

He pointed out that the bus lane was planned under the former governemnt and not having it would mean that Malta would risk losing €9.5 million in EU funds for transport.
