The CEO of Mater Dei Hospital, Ivan Falzon, has suggested that people send bouquets of flowers to the hospital morgue as a sign of solidarity with the migrants who died in last weekend’s tragedy.
24 victims of the tragedy were brought to Malta this morning and taken to the Mater Dei morgue. 14 bouquets have so far been received.
“Normally you read messages urging you to donate money to a charity instead of sending flowers .
“Friends, today I’m asking you to go ahead and order a bouquet, a little thought for these people, they don’t have anyone to do it for them in little Malta.
“Most probably their family, relatives friends don’t even know that ceased to exist. If you decide to do it, forward to The Unidentified, The Mortuary, Mater Dei Hospital, Msida.”
“We couldn’t offer them the chance for a better life, let’s at least guarantee a decent caring burial. They are human, they deserve this,” Mr Falzon said.
Autopsies will be held on the victims later this week. DNA will be preserved and burial will take place according to their relations, where that is known.
