Malta champion Alex Borg underlined his status as the top player in the local game when beating Aaron Busuttil 5-2 in the final of the third ranking competition of the season, organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association (MBSA).

In the final, played recently at the Juventutis Domus club in Zejtun, Borg produced two half-centuries as he raced to victory in the second session, having been pegged back to 2-2 by Busuttil before the break.

The match was controlled by referee John Cauchi.

Result (Borg first 84-51; 37-70; 73-0, 46-59; 77-9; 65-24; 85-29.

Meanwhile, John Vassallo and Shaun Sultana were the two finalists of the 2015 Gozo Snooker Cup, played at the Aurora Opera House, in Victoria, last week.

Sultana was in a class of his own as he saw off Vassallo 6-0 to claim the title for the first time in his career.

The competition, organised by the Gozo Billiards and Snooker Club, had an entry of 70 players. The new season in Gozo starts in November.
