The Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) teamed up with students of the Malta College for Art, Science and Technology (Mcast) to commission 12 ceramic and stone murals to be exhibited in MITA’s head office in Santa Venera as part of the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
Earlier this year, each participating student presented three different proposals to MITA management, with one piece being chosen from each.
Students then worked under the supervision of two Mcast lecturers – Kane Kali, who specialises in the use of glass and ceramics and Savio Deguara who specialises in the use of stone.
Five of the pieces were made of stone, while ceramics was the medium chosen for the other five.
Some of the murals are made up of 25 parts representing the 25 years of operations since MITA’s inception in 1990.
The murals formed part of the students’ end of year examination process, where they were judged on their ability to present their ideas, how they went about from turning their concept into an actual work of art and also on how they liaised with respective teams for the exhibition.
A booklet dedicated to these works of art and providing an overview of the students’ inspirations and creations was also published.
