A 16-year-old boy from Cospicua was critically injured in a three-car collision in Triq Ħal Far, limits of Birżebbuġa at 10.30pm yesterday.

The police said a Mazda Demio that was being driven by a 27-year-old man from Birzebbuga collided with a VW Golf, which had the 16-year-old as a passenger. A Fiat 500 was also hit.

The teenager was initially assisted by members of the Civil Protection Department  and was then rushed off to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the Mazda and his 23-year-old passenger, a woman, also from Birzebbuga, as well as the Fiat driver, a 32-year-old woman from Mosta, were also hospitalised. She suffered grievous injuries

The Mazda driver and his passenger were slightly injured.

An inquiry is being held.
