Agones Sfc swimmer Warren Muscat has just taken part in the annual endurance meet in Gibraltar, organised by the Bluefin Open Water Swimming Club.

The swim, from Eastern Beach to Catalan Bay, was characterised by strong currents which had many swimmers struggling to reach the finish point as they faced what eyewitnesses described as “difficult and dangerous” weather conditions, Agones SfC said in a statement.

Muscat was one of those who managed to successfully complete the swim within the time limit set by the organisers.

After the race, he explained that the conditions were not very bad at the start but deteriorated quickly during the course of the race, making the distance to reach shore seemingly endless.

Although the race organisers came in for criticism from those assisting the swimmers for not suspending the event, Muscat still thanked Bluefin OWSC and the lifeguards who were in the area and gave their assistance to most of those who encountered some difficulties.

While admitting that he was not expecting such a tough challenge at the Gibraltar meet, Muscat said he was looking forward to taking part in similar events organised by the Bluefin OWSC in future.
