Forest officials rescued a six-year-old elephant which fell into a well in India's southern Kerala state yesterday.

It took authorities over five hours to pull out the elephant from the unused well.

The forest officials dug into the well to make a passage for the elephant to move out.

Villagers said that an elephant herd was spotted in the area the night before and suspected that the baby elephant was part of the herd.

The elephant suffered minor injuries in the rescue operation.
