Two bird trappers were fined by a court this morning on conviction of illegal trapping.

The CABS bird monitoring society said that a bird trapper was fined €2,400 and lost his hunting and trapping licence for three years after he was found guilty of illegally trapping finches at  the Majistral nature and  history park this spring.

Another trapper from Zurrieq was ordered to pay €1,200 and has his licences suspended for two years for illegal finch trapping in spring last year.

CABS said it had reported both cases to the police and provided video evidence in court. It did not name the trappers in its statement today.

Yesterday, a bird trapper from Gozo was fined €8,000 for illegal finch trapping close to San Lawrenz during the closed season in spring.
