Birkirkara scored three second half goals to see off Sliema Wanderers 3-1 and register their third successive victory.

Birkirkara started brightly and on seven minutes Zerafa burst clear on the left before teeing up Fabrizio Miccoli who fired over.

Sliema were struggling to contain Birkirkara’s quick forays and on 13 minutes Elezaj dived full stretch to keep out Mazzetti’s cross shot and from the rebound Cain Attard headed wide in front of a gaping goal.

But it was Sliema who took the lead when Rafael Ledesma picked Gary Muir inside the area and the Scottish left-back quickly teed up Alex Muscat who hit a rasping drive that gave Justin Haber no chance.

Sliema almost doubled their lead on the half hour when in a quick break Ledesma fed Aidan Friggieri who turned past Zach Muscat but his shot was repelled by Haber.

Birkirkara quickly regained the initiative but their only opportunity came on the stroke of half-time when Zach Muscat’s header somehow was kept out by Elezaj and from the rebound Liliu fired over from routine distance.

The Stripes started the second half strongly and on 50 minutes they drew level. Liliu was brought down in the area by Marko Potezica and from the resultant penalty Miccoli sent Elezaj the wrong way.

The Wanderers seemed to lose their plot and three minutes later they conceded a second goal.

Gatt Baldacchino’s pass towards Luke Dimech caught the veteran defender by surprise and in came Plut who pushed the ball towards Liliu who drilled the ball into the net.

But it was Birkirkara who wrapped up the points on 73 minutes when in a fast break Miccoli fed Ryan Camenzuli who turned past Alex Muscat before hammering the ball home.

Birkirkara defender Zach Muscat was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
