Shadow Minister Jason Azzopardi today shot back at the Prime Minister who yesterday described as a “vindictive act” the way the former government had evicted a Labour Party club from its Siggiewi property.

Dr Azzopardi said it was the Prime Minister who was discriminating politically and being vindictive with the people of Siggiewi because he was placing the interests of his party before that of families and businesses.

The Siggiewi council had plans to use the area to provide new services included a night centre for the elderly, educational courses and a public library.

It said it was to take court action over the government’s renewal of the encroachment agreement which had originally been for a five year term to give the party time to find a new site.

Addressing a news conference this morning, Dr Azzopardi insisted the agreement should be revoked and the property returned to the people of Siggiewi.

Spokesman Ryan Callus said the Prime Minister was defending decisions that were against the common good.
