Members of the Malta Taekwondo Federation and the Taekwondo Dragon Club recently competed in the Yorkshire Open at the Richmond Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford, England.

This event attracted 350 partici-pants, mainly coming from the British isles.

The Malta Taekwondo Federation fielded five athletes in the tournament.

Gianluca Barbara and Mauro Busuttil competed in the senior categories, winning a gold and bronze medal respectively.

Kyle Saliba Gracey, Marco Cassara and Jaden Cauchi were involved in different junior competitions.

Cauchi was classified third in his class, having won his first bout but then losing his next one. Unfortunately, the two other athletes both came up against stiff opposition and lost in the initial rounds.

Taekwondo Dragon Club’s contingent was composed of five female athletes whose age varied between 10 and 27 years.

Jody Bruno won gold after defeating both her opponents by walkover and technical knockout, respectively.

Kylie Magro won her initial bout by technical knockout in the last round but then lost in the final to settle for second place.

Both Debbie Osmond and Julie Ann Camilleri secured silver medals in their respective categories.

Shania Magro lost her first bout whereas Lynsey Fenech was foced to pull out due to an injury sustained a week before.
