Community care provided by the State through the MMDNA will as of next month be provided by a new operator, Healthmark Group.

The MMDNA informed its employees on Saturday that the homecare service provider will be taking over on November 9.

Healthmark Group director Arthur Gauci said the change will not affect employees or clients as the day-to-day operation of services will remain the same.

The company will also have a contract with the government which provides for free community care in the home to patients identified by the government’s CommCare Assessment Unit as requiring medical assistance.

Mr Gauci said he hoped the transition would be a smooth one. Healthmark would be looking at ways to improve the services offered to clients as well as management structures.

The company was established in 1985 and offers both home care services, such as assisting with cooking, cleaning, shopping, personal care and other tasks, and general nursing services.

Employees have been told the change in service provider will not affect any of their terms and conditions and that the new service provider would be operating from the MMDNA premises until the end of January.

The MMDNA, set up in 1945, last month informed the Department for the Elderly and Community Care that it would be terminating its contract with the government.
