I read with great interest the article about the good percentage of students who are leaving school feeling they cannot cope and worse, that they are good for nothing (November 26).

As a former teacher it makes me very sad to read that so many young people are giving up on trying to do well, pursue further studies or learn a trade.

All the efforts being made to contact these youngsters are commendable. However I feel that more should be done in the way of visual promotion on television.

A promo calling on these young people who have dropped out of school because they feel they cannot cope may, in appropriate wording, be of help.

It would call on them to seek help and urge them to do something with their life, emphasising the beauty of life and assuring them they would feel a sense of satisfaction when they succeed.
