Two men were each given a suspended sentence this morning after admitting to using false travel documents.

Moroccan Atman Taoutaou, 36, was charged with making use of a counterfeit document while Gambian Dawda Sabally, 27, was accused with using a valid document issued by the Italian authorities which, however, did not belong to him.

Prosecuting officer Victor Aquilina told the court that Mr Sabally was an imposter who had travel documents which were not currently valid.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia warned both men to behave, explaining that they would end up in prison if they committed another crime, no matter how slight the offence.

Both were given a six-month jail sentence suspended for two years.

Legal aid lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the accused parties.
