The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Anton Borg, said at a meeting with the leader of the opposition today that it should never be a race to the bottom when it comes to governance, rule of law and standards. Instead, it should be a battle between the two sides of parliament on which party can offer the best policies while upholding excellence and quality in everything it does.
Mr Borg said the chamber was concerned about reports in the press about poor management of public funds, poor decisions, conflicts of interest and other issues.
The chamber met with the Opposition to discuss the PN's new economic policy document, Economy for the People, which was published last month.
Mr Borg welcomed similarities between the document and the chamber's own economic vision. However, he also raised concerns of a lack of proposals on Malta's regional disadvantage.
The island, he said, was losing out to other neighboring countries which were more competitive.
Dr Busuttil said it was about time the country started planning for when EU funds, currently aiding the country, dried out in 2020.
Weighing in on issues of poor governance, Dr Busuttil said he agreed that the country was on a race to the bottom.
