A Marsa open centre resident this morning was jailed for a year after being caught red-handed stealing an alloy wheel from a tyre service station while drunk.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon at 5pm when Mohamed Haji Abdilwahid Nur, 36, from Somalia, was caught in the act at Rebek Tyre Services of Marsa. The man pleaded guilty to all charges.

The court presided by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how this was the eight time that the Somali man had been arraigned to court, and that he could not control his alcohol addiction.

Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
