Transport Malta officials conducted 3,040 roadside checks between January and November last year and 1,680 in the whole of the previous year.

The checks were made in Attard, Mtarfa, Rabat, Mosta, Naxxar, Ħal Għaxaq, Gudja, Marsaxlokk, Fgura, Żabbar, Pembroke, Qormi, Siġġiewi, Żebbuġ, Luqa, Ħal Far, Burmarrad, Corradino, Gozo, Xemxija, Valletta City Gate, St Paul's Bay, Għar Dalam, Marsascala, Mġarr, Tarxien, Kirkop, Żejtun, Ta’ Qali, Magħtab, San Ġwann Industrial Estate and Ta’ Kandja.

During 2014, 51% of the vehicles that were checked, or 858, failed the test.

Figures for last year are being finalised, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi told Censu Galea (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question.
