Malta will host the most important event that The Economist has organised in the Mediterranean at the end of this month.

The Economist's Mediterranean Leadership Summit will take place on April 28 and 29.

The event will see the participation of prominent personalities from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa who will share their expertise and insight on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead on issues that are shaping global developments in politics, finance, business, technology, energy, shipping, tourism, and more.

The event was launched during a news conference by Economy Minister Chris Cardona, Chamber of Commerce president Anton Borg, Michel Cordina, Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Bank Malta, and Chris Munz from CountryProfiler.

The Mediterranean Leadership Summit in Malta comes at a crucial time, whereby the countries of the Mediterranean are called upon to share their leadership strategy and vision for stability, growth and competitiveness in the region.

Two European Commissioners: Maroš Šefčovič, VP leading the ‘Energy Union’ project team, and Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for the Environment, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries will be among the speakers.

Taking part will also be regional heads and CEOs of multinational corporations including GE, Siemens, ENI, and Ericsson; founders, chairpersons, and presidents of leading Mediterranean companies such as Yildirim Group of Turkey, ETRHB Haddad of Algeria, Orascom Hotels and Development of Egypt, Sigma Investments of Jordan, and Tell Group of the United Arab Emirates; prominent figures from organisations whose decisions strongly impact the future of the Mediterranean including the EBRD, World Bank, and the World Tourism Organisation; and leaders of pan-regional Chambers of Commerce and businesspersons’ associations including Eurochambres, BUSINESSMED and ASCAME.
