Birdlife Malta’s adult activities group once again organised a day trip to Sicily for members and friends.

The trip included a five-kilometre trek to the beautiful nature park of Cava dei Servi at San Giacomo, on the outskirts of Ragusa.

This was the site of human settlements in the early bronze age and contains innumerable small, artificial grotto sepulchres hollowed on the sides of the rock faces. The quarry contains a running stream at the deepest end and is rich in vegetation.

Following lunch at a typical agritourism farm, the group proceeded to Noto, where participants visited and admired the various historical churches and palaces which make this town a world heritage site.

The group was led by forest ranger Ray Vella, helped by guides from the Kalura association.

Another activity is being organised for members on April 24. This will include a tour of the Għadira Nature Reserve, bird ringing and a guided walk by Foresta 2000.
