Pembroke Athleta are safely through to the fourth round of the FA Trophy after edging past Sirens 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium.

Sirens did all the early running and on 14 minutes Jonas Ekani did well to turn past his marker but his stinging drive flew over.

But it was Pembroke who struck five minutes later.

Borche Manevski sped into the area and squared the ball into the path of Bernardo Mariano who bundled the ball home.

Pembroke were now in control and on 49 minutes Sirens goalkeeper Gabriel Romano charged out of his goal to deny Siraj Arab who was through on goal.

But the Pembroke winger made no mistake four minutes later when he did well to control Paltemio Barbetti’s cross pass and beat Romano with a firm drive.

Sirens refused to throw in the towel and on 63 minutes Kenneth Etim, who had just replaced Martini, sped clear to meet Charles Newuche’s throughball and beat the onrushing Calleja Cremona.

Sirens tried to push more men forward in search of an equaliser but Pembroke held on to set up a fourth-round tie against Marsa.
