Lidl’s distribution hub, meant to employ 120 people, has not yet got off the ground because the amount of land required was “so large”, Economy Minister Chris Cardona said.

MP David Stellini asked a parliamentary question about the project which had been announced a year ago.

In March 2017, Dr Cardona said Malta Enterprise and Malta Industrial Parks had struck a deal with the German retailer which would boost local exports.

Within three years, Lidl was planning to increase the value of products it purchased from Maltese manufacturers from the current €3 million to €22 million, with most of these products destined for export.
